FAQ

How do I do a new install on my computer using a Repelit install mode?

First, let’s define the modes and the types of installations you might do (install modes must be unlocked).

There are 4 modes and 3 types of installs: software installs, hardware installs and trusted installs (Repelit mode is not an install mode).  Simply match the type of install with the correct install mode.

The first of the four modes is “Repelit mode:” it is not a true installation mode (see NOTE below).  Most “Plug-and-Play” devices will install while in Repelit mode along with some very simple software installations.

The second mode is “Software Mode.”  Software mode is used to install software.

The third mode is “Devices Mode.” Use this mode to install hardware devices and device drivers.

For well known and trusted products choose “Off Mode.”

Unlike “Software Mode” or “Devices Mode,” Off Mode does not offer any installation protection.  For some types of trusted product installations “Off Mode” is required to allow the product to install completely and function correctly.  Operating system updates and patches are examples of when to use Off Mode.  Off Mode has the same result as doing an installation to a computer that does not have Repelit. It will allow everything, anywhere on your system.  Use this mode with caution.

Now that you have an idea of how installs work, you are ready to do an install.

NOTE:  The default auto-protection design of Repelit mode was designed to protect the user from unapproved installations from badware, while web surfing, opening email attachments or just using your computer. As a result Repelit mode is not considered an installation mode.
