Do I need to reinstall a program if it does not automatically startup?
It depends.
Some users like to load everything at logon. This can be a dangerous practice,
because badware processes often gain a hold of the computer during startup. If
you still decide to load everything at startup, Repelit should be switched
into “Off Mode.” Make sure every program that starts up is a trusted and
well-known application; this will require some research on your part. Do a web check using one of the major
search engines.
You do not
wish to have badware launch at every logon. Remember, “Off Mode” does not offer any protection for
installs, which means you can accidentally install badware on your system if
you make a mistake. Make sure you
choose carefully when using “Off Mode.”
You can run Scrubit (itSoftware’s own behavioral badware cleaner) after an installation as a safety net. If you did not check to make sure the program is safe to install in “Off Mode,” Scrubit will test it to make sure. Scrubit will check out the new program’s processes to see if it is behaving like badware. If the unknown program does not pass the behavioral filters test, then Scrubit will clean the startup component of the install off your system. The badware will then not be able to run. If the Scrubit behavioral filters don’t find a problem, your application will automatically launch at startup and you can feel safe about using it.
For users that launch only what they need when they need it, a reinstall will not be necessary. If the program works perfectly, launch it from a shortcut when you need it.
Reducing the amount of programs launching at startup makes logging on a computer much faster, makes using your computer a little livelier and most importantly minimizes compromising your system with auto loading routines that may run Badware processes unknown to you.
