FAQ

If badware behaves like a standard program, can it be cleaned by Scrubit?

Yes. While Scrubit was designed to allow applications to run by following safe guidelines, a badware process or annoying program can escape detection by following safe program behavior. If you continue to have problems after running Scrubit and are getting a message "No Badware Found", it is because the badware does a rare thing - it follows the rule and follows safe program behavior. To clean these forms of problems follow the directions below.

STEP 1:

Launch "Scrubit" click the Setup button. This will launch the "Setup a Safelist" page.

STEP 2:

Click on the "Add" button to bring up the "Add to Safelist" page. The items listed in the list box are assumed unsafe. This list can be used to verify items and put them into the safelist or in our case, will be used to identify your running process to locate the name of the annoying program you wish removed.

STEP 3:

Follow the same guidelines used in "How to setup a Safelist" to find the badware item. Once the item is located and the process name is known, launch Scrubit but do not click "Start." Leave Scrubit up and running on your computer.

STEP 4:

Hit "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Esc" to bring up the "Task Manager" window and click on the "Processes" tab.

STEP 5:

Knowing the name of the process (discovered in step 3), locate that process and hit the "End Process" button. When the process stops, close the Task Manager window.

STEP 6:

Now go back to the Scrubit program (still up on your screen) and click the "Start" button to begin the discovery and removal process.

STEP 7:

Scrubit’s starting screen warns you not to start any programs while it is running, but we will intentionally disregard this rule to remove the offending program. While Scrubit is running, launch (by shortcut or directly) the offending program (discovered in step 3) and close it and Scrubit will put the program in the list of discovered items to be quarantined (Scrub’d). At the end of the testing process the badware item you wish to remove will show in the list of badware items found.

STEP 8:

Click "Scrubit" to remove the badware or offending program from your system.

NOTE: Make sure the item you wish to remove is not in the Scrubit safelist.
