Can I reinstall and use my free program anyway?
It depends. Scrubit's inoculate feature (if checked) was
specifically designed to prevent a user from being tricked into reinstalling
the same badware process, even if it is combined with a totally different
freeware program. If the EULA
of your program gives you a name of the program or process that may be
inoculated by Scrubit, you can launch Scrubit click on the "Scrub'd" button,
locate the item by name, and click restore. Your program should work again.
There are some safe freeware programs that only launch annoying pop ups to
help offset product support costs. It is unfortunate in today's environment
that those products are hurt by other freeware products that do not stop at
just pop ups, but run badware that can collect user information or cause
damage. These products are hard for a user to distinguish from legitimate and
safe products.
Scrubit's filters are impartial, they only filter by behavior. If Scrubit has
cleaned an item, there must be a reason. The reason is the items quarantined
exhibit unsafe behavior. Think twice before restoring quarantined items. Never
restore an item just because you recognize the name, always verify the item
with web check. Badware (security threats) seek to escape discovery by naming
themselves something you are likely to be familiar with in order to hide in
plain sight. It is easier to deceive a person than a program. Only process
behavior qualifies programs as good or bad. There is no name that will
disguise badware from Scrubit.
