After I ran Scrubit, I ran a freeware scanning product which found more badware. Did this slip by Scrubit?
You might be
using a freeware product posing as a malware cleaner, popup blocker, or
virus scanner. You may have received an alarm on screen that your system was scanned and there are security
threats on your system. These false products will pretend to find
badware (even on a brand new uninfected computer) to fool a user into thinking
their existing security products do not do a good job. Unknowingly, you run
their product (sometimes requiring a purchase) and in the background new updates download
more badware to your computer. Typically these products appear while you are
on the internet claiming your system has spyware or virus problems. Then they
try to push purchasing their product on you to remove the (fake) threats that
they have falsely identified.
On a system cleaned with Scrubit
and protected with Repelit the messages about threats on your system are
fake. Repelit, it will block the auto-installs of these hidden downloads from
fakeware and rogue websites. There are legitimate websites to help users identify the imposters from legitimate security products.
Check these web sites out, they will identify and list the
bad products. New products will not be listed. Trust Scrubit and Repelit
to keep your system safe.
